Various bugs on beta 1.0191

Hi i just want to flag a few issues I’ve been receiving on version build 159 - beta (V1.0191)

  • Unable to use the experimental player for multiple profiles, it says playback error: source error every time.

  • Unable to delete a user profile, it freezes on the confirmation screen and unable to select confirm or cancel.

  • Refresh all media for this server - Visually it doesn’t seem that the button does anything when clicking on it. there is no confirmation if its actually refreshing or not.

  • Netflix Peek isn’t sowing any peek items for me its just blank while other peek views do show content row.

  • Feature suggestion - Would be helpful to sync settings with multiple dispatch instances. My family had fun creating the avatars on one device and a little bit painful to set them up on my other two streaming devices. Would be great to sync instead of tweaking the settings on each device to match the same settings and user permissions (e.g. Kids profile and settings).

Thanks for creating the app and support

Hello! I don’t think I’ve received any logs from you but the latest beta versions contain more detailed logging for video playback. So if you are able to collect those logs I should be able to resolve your source error issues quickly enough:

Hello! Thanks for reporting these. For the bugs, if you could record logs on your device that would be very helpful. Some of these haven’t been reported before exactly as you describe them, so logs from your device(s) would be helpful.

If you can, enable logging and record by:

    1) Settings → About → Diagnostics

    2) Restart Dispatch

    3) Then trigger each bug a few times

    4) Export your logs from the same place you enabled logging. Do not disable logging before exporting, as that will clear the device logs.

    5) Optionally export your database as well. This should be especially helpful for the netflix app peek bug. Note however that your database lists all your media, so if you have privacy with sending me a copy that’s understandable.

Thanks! I’ll look into these asap either way.

For the feature suggestion, it’s been suggested before and it’s something I’d like to do, but it’s not on the roadmap right now. I am working on a settings backup restore that should make that process less painful overall, however, a true “household sync” mechanism would be much more involved than that.

Thanks, I will try to send over the weekend some diagnostics or logs.

and thanks for taking the feature suggestion under consideration. A backup restore might might be a good workaround. Thinking it through, would using the google account integration (Same integration used to confirm purchases) be able to be used for syncing across devices/backing up/restoring? I’m a novice when it comes to this stuff but believe other apps might leverage some type of app configuration saving/syncing behaviors.

It’s a possibility, yes, but I haven’t made any final decisions on what the mechanism will be.

If you’re wondering if there’s an easy google side toggle to just back up and restore settings for the app, that’s not how it works. I as a developer need to decide what gets backed up and what doesn’t, and how and when.

For example, a Dispatch database can be 200mb (if it contains 100,000+ media, as some do). It would be wasteful to back all this up. Settings back up and restoration need to be targeted so only the minimal and correct data is backed up.
